According to the project's leaders, "SunCrafter produces and provides solar systems offering energy access independent from existing power grids. The SunCrafter systems work wherever needed – both in urban environments and rural areas. Whenever electricity access is needed, but difficult to achieve, our products offer a simple, immediate, and efficient solution." During the COVID-19 pandemic, SunCrafter developed a system which uses ultraviolet light for disinfection.

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and Solarkiosk have launched a multi-sectoral, multi-partner collaboration focused on using solar power initiatives to increase the response capacities of African healthcare systems in the face of COVID-19. The overall goal is to strengthen capacity building and technical assistance, especially to at-risk communities, which can be done through a variety of methods, including the creation of mobile, solar-powered clinics or early response platforms.
